There was a very distinctive social structure system in medieval Europe. The first level was the monarch. This included the King, The Queen, The princes, the princesses and the clergy. The monarch was in charge of the land except for the church. The monarch lived in a castle and over all the manors in the land. The next highest level was the lords and nobles. The lords were given responsibility of the estates by the monarch, in exchange of this land the had to give the king there loyalty and military support. Under the Lords were the knights or vassals. They belonged to the lords and fought for the them in battles and wars. The lowest level of medieval Europe was the peasants and serfs. Almost 90% of medieval Europe people were peasants or serfs. In return for some protection and land the peasants had to work long and hard hours farming and doing other various job for the Lord.
